Lamps and Lightening
Today’s lighting technology is relatively new. Formerly living rooms were illuminated with the help of torches, torch, oil lamps or candles, but this could only result in a (specific) brightening of the room. The oil lamp with round wicks and glass cylinders represented an improvement of lighting that have existed since about 1800 the.
With the invention of the incandescent lamp by Thomas Alva Edison and the electrification of households, the home lighting was also improved significantly.
The lighting of a living space is primarily designed to create good visual conditions. In addition, the lamps and lightening can influence the quality of mental and physical well-being.Lots of light still does not represent “good” lighting. This is distinguished in that it is tuned to the room and its use. Early planning can prevent costly changes in already completed residential premises. The interior lighting shall be subject to relevant standards.
There are four main criteria for determining the quality of lighting:
- Level of illumination and brightness distribution
-Limitation of glare
- Direction of light and shadow
- Light colour and colour rendering properties
Lamps for domestic use
In selecting the appropriate lights for home lighting, the light output, light colour and the colour rendering properties are taken into account. Issues of efficiency and profitability gained in the course of the 20th Century in importance.
For lighting of living spaces are primarily used:
- Light bulbs
- Halogen bulbs
- Fluorescent
- Compact (better known as energy saving bulbs)
For each of these exists a variety of lamps which are constructed according to use. The main task of the luminaries is to direct the lamp light and to minimize the glare. The light also protects the lamp from damage. Also built into the lamp, the lamp and the necessary fasteners may be required ballasts.
